Recent Changes In Governing Rule:
Cristina FERNANDEZ DE KIRCHNER succeeded her husband as president in late 2007, and in 2008 the
rapid economic growth of previous years slowed sharply as government policies held back exports and
the world economy fell into recession. In 2010 the economy rebounded strongly, but slowed in late 2011
even as the government continued to rely on expansionary fiscal and monetary policies, which kept
inflation in the double digits.
In order to deal with these problems, the government expanded state intervention in the economy: it
nationalized the oil company YPF from Spain’s Repsol, expanded measures to restrict imports, and
further tightened currency controls in an effort to bolster foreign reserves and stem capital flight. Between
2011 and 2013, Central Bank foreign reserves dropped $21.3 billion from a high of $52.7 billion. In July
2014, Argentina and China agreed on an $11 billion currency swap; the Argentine Central Bank has
received the equivalent of $3.2 billion in Chinese yuan, which it counts as international reserves.

Bribery: According to the Financial Times article, “Argentina’s ex-president answers bribery…” their
leadership was very involved in corrupt unethical behaviors. Long story short, Cristina Femrnandez De
Kirchner has been accused of leading a criminal organization that took millions of dollars in bribes from
construction companies for work projects; her driver, Oscar Centeno noted down all the details of the
transactions (1).
Enforcement: According to U.S. Department of State’s article, “U.S. Relationship with
Argentina,”Argentina maintains a bilateral relationship based on interests including economic ties,
democracy and human rights, counterterrorism and rule of law (1).
I would say that the biggest challenge that Argentina faces currently is trying to rebuild a positive
reputation with their leadership. Their ex-ruler getting caught up in such a big financial scandal can cause
a strain on future relationships with other countries. They may fear receiving negative publicity if things
go wrong with on Argentina’s end again. The main way to fix this issue is to take baby steps and do small
gestures to earn trust of different countries. Without trust, business can’t work out.

Business Observations:
Since Norway has a higher Corruption Perception Index score, they are aware of the corruption that
goes on in the country and they have strong institutions in place to keep corruption low. Corruption can
affect business first, because it’s illegal which can cause legal issues which can look bad for companies
that participate in bribery or any type of corruption. Another consequence of bribery is the inflated
costs of production to pay for bribes. Challenges an organization may face could be the aspect of
individuals in the company receiving bribes. The best way to safeguard against this type of behavior is to
keep a good balance of power within the organization. No one person can make any decisions, involving
funds or products, without the approval of another individual in the company. More than not if two or
more people are involved in some type of criminal behavior, the truth will come out easier than if only
one person is involved. No matter how high up in the organization a person certain decision may be
should always be discussed with others at the same level to keep from corrupt behaviors. Management
should be aware of typical corrupt behaviors and should be trained on how to keep issues like these
from happening by asking the person (that may be involved in corrupt behavior) if they may discuss why
certain funds haven’t been recorded properly, or why a certain decision was made. These types of
discussions should have at least two other management level leaders involved, to keep the discussion
appropriate and ethical.
