Outline of an Argumentative Essay – WRI102 

Write an outline for your introductory research paper.  You need to show what you will be discussing in each section. Make sure the various parts/body paragraphs closely relate to your thesis. Upload your work on Bb before the end of the lesson.

2. Background Information: basic information about the issue (i.e. euthanasia) and the position being argued (i.e. euthanasia should/should not be allowed).
3. Thesis Statement: states the position to be argued in the essay

4. Supporting evidence

3. Supporting evidence

1. Counter argument/ Refutation or concession
2. Opposing view-why it is wrong (or true to some extent)
3. Opposing view-why it is wrong (or true to some extent)

Notes about reasons/arguments section:

1. Since this is a longer paper, you will most likely have more than one paragraph per main point.  This means that your discussion will be more detailed.

2. Think carefully about how you order your reasons/arguments.  Possible ways to order your arguments include most familiar®least familiar or least important (weakest)®most important (strongest).
