Paper #3: Diagnosing Heroes and Villains
In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to take some of the knowledge you have gained from your readings and lectures on the topic of psychological disorders, and apply it to the characters of the film The Dark Knight. For this assignment, you will watch the film (that’s right. I officially assign you to take a night off and watch a–dare I say, FANTASTIC–film). Then, you will apply the concept of psychological disorders to one or more of the following characters:

Bruce Wayne/Batman
The Joker
Harvey Dent/Two-Face

In particular, you will discuss whether the character(s) you choose could be diagnosed with one or more psychological disorders, and if so, why?

Make sure to provide a rationale for your answer: For example, in what ways does Batman/Joker/Harvey/Two-Face exhibit symptoms of the disorder of your choosing? Are there things he has (or says he has) experienced that might have caused such a disorder?

Also, make sure to include references from your assigned readings from Meyer?s Exploring Psychology textbook (Ch. 13 Psychological Disorders), including page numbers of quotations.

Papers should be 1000-1500 words, and will be graded based on three elements:

Your accuracy in describing the disorder(s) you select (i.e. have you identified the correct symptoms and causes of each disorder?)
The appropriateness of the disorder(s) to the character(s) you choose (i.e. do the symptoms you describe actually appear to fit the character(s)?)
Your grammar, spelling, and writing style (i.e. are your arguments clear? is your paper organized? are your sentences legible?)
