As usual, follow the assignment guidelines and post a draft (including images, links, and citations) on your discussion thread. You should incorporate your images (and map!) into your text, they should not be random images tacked on at the end.

You need to make a map again this week. You can either use data from ArcGIS online OR make your own spreadsheet (csv file) to use.

Your map will not change the world or even be that groundbreaking. Just make a simple map. Make sure you share it properly so that when you copy the link to your assignment, we can access it.

Remember: you are making a map, not a storymap. Do not make a storymap yet… the terms ArcGIS Online uses are confusing. Map, not storymap.

Incorporate the following terms (all found within your text) into your response as much as you can: Nation, state, sovereignty, power, territoriality.

All states have sovereignty issues, either for minority populations within the country or threats from the outside. Using the prompt below, address the parts that are most relevant to your chosen state.

When did your country become an independent state? (if you are looking at the sub-state scale, as defined by your text and by geographers when was your area incorporated into the state within which is now belongs?) What was the process and is it still contested?

What nationalities are encompassed by your state? There may be many, but mention a few that are predominant. In what way is your state threatened by nations within its borders? How does that nation (or nations) attempt to impose sovereignty within the larger state?

You might also be looking at a state that is controlled by outside states. Is the country really sovereign? Is there a movement to restore sovereignty so that the state is no longer controlled by a far-away power (usually a European one). Or are there countries that have invaded the sovereignty of your state? Why? What was the result and/or reaction by the government?
