Purpose:
The assignment is designed to encourage person-centered care using the principles of
culturally and clinically competence and responsibility. The student will also develop skill
in communicating in a scholarly and professional manner. (CLO 4, 5)
Process:
1. The student will pick a culture different from their own.
2. Students will complete an individual power point presentation and narrate it utilizing
Panopto. Panopto directions will be posted in Canvas.
3. The presentation will focus on at least 5 of the below topics and explain how knowledge
of these cultural differences could impact nursing care utilizing specific examples.

Practices that may be specific to a culture
o Dietary preferences
o View of mental health
o Birth practices
o End of life practices
o Expression and management of pain
o Willingness to share information
o Communication
o View of family

Stigma that may be associated with the culture or spiritual beliefs of the patient
4. The presentations will be uploaded into Canvas.
