For your final exam, I would like you to take a close look at Star Wars by George Lucas and the two selections from Native American mythology- World Making Stories and the Winnebago Trickster cycle. According to Bierlein, one of the most interesting results of the encounters between Europeans and the “various peoples of Africa, Asia, and the Americas…was the recognition that cultures vastly separated from them by time and geography had religious practices and myths strikingly similar to their own” (Bierlein 267)

In an essay of around 800 words (using only the sources from class), I would like you to argue for what you think are the cultural similarities between Star Wars by George Lucas, and Native American mythology. Use at least a minimum of 2 quotes from each source (for a total of 4) to support your analysis. Clearly mark your thesis with an *. Though Bierlein and others find this to be ‘extraordinary,’ I believe it reveals as much about early historians and ethnographers as it does about the cultures they were examining. Your essay should address the colonial, political, and cultural implications of what early explorers found to be ‘astounding’.
