Your Midterm papers should be 4-5 pages. Papers must have a clear, strong thesis and must be supported by information from lecture and the readings. Do not retell the plot of a story. Use quotes and include the page number in parenthesis. You are not required to use outside sources, but if you do, you must include a bibliography in MLA style. Your papers will be graded down if they do not meet the following technical requirements. Spelling and grammar must be substantially correct. You should proof read your work and use academic style. All papers must be typed, double-spaced, in black ink, standard margins in 10 or 12 Times New Roman or similar font. Please include page numbers and a title. Quotes from your book should be marked with chapter and page number (14/3). Any form of plagiarism will receive an F.

TOPICS

1. In the films we have seen explore the children’s role in their different settings. Keep in mind the historical era in which the film was made and how it would reflect on the film and the children’s character.
2. Compare and contrast two or three characters in the movies we watched in class. Explain their traits by giving specific examples drawn from the plot. What similarities and differences do you detect? How does the political agenda reflects itself into these movies and these characters?
3. Your own topic

You can always Identify any editing or stylistic choices that caught your eye (e.g. framing, shot composition, specific cuts) in 2 of the movies we watched. Give some examples

You must submit your Midterm Paper (4-5 pages) on Wed. February 12th in our classroom and on Canvas.

I expect a minimum threshold of competence. Consequently, I will not accept any paper

1. which does not consistently follow an accepted style (ex: MLA); or
2. in which there is plagiarism, whether intentional or inadvertent; or
3. in which technical terms or philosophers’ names are systematically misspelled.
