Family and Kinship, Cultures of the World

Part1
Illegitimacy impacts negatively both on the child and the society. Some impacts are permanent whereas others are temporary. The child is more likely to experience poorer health as a new born since it is born to a young woman. Younger women are more likely to give birth to premature infants. The infant is born with a moderate or very low weight. These infants have a high risk of getting complications hence social trauma to the mother and medical costs weight on the family.
The absence of one parent in the upbringing of a child can cause poor academic performance. This may lead to the child getting a low income job eventually reducing the overall performance of the economy of the nation .The society can also be affected by the negative behavior developed by the youngster. Single parents would be less likely to take stern disciplinary action against their children. This would then lead the child to have low morals and therefore impact negatively in the development of the society. Lack of married parents can also be linked to crime increase in a community. Illegitimacy is many times a sign of unexpected pregnancy therefore the child’s upbringing is not planned for. Poverty arises leading to crime as an alternative for survival .
Broken homes can be caused by poverty, barrenness of a spouse, infidelity and other such factors. In case of a couple with children, the child is expected to choose sides hence putting pressure on the child. There is also a feeling of rejection by one of the partners or betrayal. The children may grow up with hatred, depression or feelings of rejection depending on the cause of the break up. This would lead to the growth of dissatisfied, unhappy or frustrated individuals in the society.
Incompatible homes are a sign of intolerance. Since the couple cannot tolerate one another, the child, if they have any, would grow with the same notion. He or she would disregard marriage with the belief that marriage can never work. Happy homes are a sign of comfort and joy. When a society has incompatible homes, then the individuals would seem to be unhappy and dissatisfied. These feelings cannot help in the positive development of a society.
Illegitimacy has the most harmful impact on the society because the parent, the child, the extended family and the community are all affected in specific instances. Crime and poverty affect the society most and are seen to be most prevalent in illegitimacy cases.
Part 2
Romantic love has its advantages as a method of mate selection. Intense romance has trust and patience therefore guaranteeing tolerance in a relationship . Every relationship has its ups and downs but when a relationship is based on romance, the huddles are most likely to be overcome. Mate selection is not an easy task hence having a criterion that does not overlook emotional attraction is an advantage.
Romantic love can however be exploited having one partner pretending to have feelings for the other when in fact they don’t. Once the partner being exploited realizes what is happening they feel betrayed and sometimes even lose faith in love. Intense romance overlooks friends as possible lovers. Due to the fear that trust and friendship can be lost once sexual attraction is introduced, many people prefer not to engage in sexual relations with a good friend. However, a good friend is a probable good choice lover since it has already been established that the two have similar interests, trust and understand each other. Romantic love is sometimes based on “love at first site”. Impulsive feelings such as this have a tendency to be false implying infatuation which dies off eventually .
Part 3
Monogamy is the marriage between a man and a woman where the man marries the woman. The main feature of this marriage is a single spouse. Remarriage is acceptable in serial monogamy but only after the death of the first spouse or after divorce. Straight monogamy does not allow remarriage in any situation. Monogamy can be classified as the most common of the four types of marriage.
Polygyny is a type of polygamy where a man marries more than one woman at a particular time. The man can either marry women related as sisters or ones that are not related as sisters. When the man marries sisters the marriage is termed as sororal polygyny . In the instance that the wives are not related the marriage is non-sororal polygyny. Polygyny is not as common as monogamy but it is more common than the other types of marriage.
Polyandry is also a form of polygamy. A woman marries more than one man in this marriage. The husbands can either be brothers or not related as brothers. When the husbands are brothers, the marriage is fraternal polyandry and when the husbands are not related as brothers the marriage is non-fraternal. In non-fraternal polyandry the other husbands have no claim over their wife so long as she lives with one of her husbands.
Group marriage is the least common type of marriage. In this marriage two or more women are married with two or more men. The wives are common wives and the husbands are common husbands. The children are not specific to certain individuals but rather they are regarded as the children of the group as a whole.
Part 4
Culture has particular traits and characteristics. Some of the traits are positive while others are negative. Language is one trait of culture that has changed very much over time. Presently the young generation has developed a language common to them which has become very popular. This dialect is corrupting the standard language by overlooking boundaries between formal and informal communication. Vulgar and obscene vocabulary can also be found in the dialect especially in areas with violent lifestyles . The direction taken by this new language is of disorder and chaos. Since vocabulary keeps changing after every short while, keeping up is difficult therefore leading to misunderstanding. It would be important to discourage this language and re-introduce the traditional and respectful language culture.
History is a culture trait that defines mankind. It is important since it reminds man of his origin as well as dictating the steps he should take in pursuit of a better future. The culture of history helps to preserve the important events of the past. These events teach us what is good and what is not. The good is improved and the negative events are avoided in the future. Learning from mistakes of the past ensures they are not repeated in times to come. It is important to preserve the culture of history as it is.
