Overview

For your first essay, you will explore your relationship with writing. Using the reflection and ideas you have come up with in your journal entries/discussion, write a literacy narrative in which you explore how you think of writing and experiences that you have writing. You could write about one specific experience or several experiences. Overall, you need to think about your attitude towards writing and how you approach it both academically and personally.

Suggestions

• Think about this essay as telling a story about your experiences with writing. There is not necessarily going to be an argument in this essay; rather, you are telling me about your past experiences with and attitudes towards writing.
• You may and probably should use “I” in your essay, since you are talking about your personal experiences.
• You might want to reflect on writing within your major or in the field in which you would like to work.
• Your essay can be informal, but should still follow grammar and formatting guidelines.
