Happy New Year!
I am writing to apply for the Accounting Assistant Internship. I came across this
internship opportunity on your website and believe that I qualify for this
experience. Let me express my interest!
First, I am young, energetic, and people always tell me what a great smile I have.
I have a lot of experience in professional offices, and make friends easily. My
hobbies include photography and tutoring Math. I am very confident in my math
skills. Whenever I dine out, my friends always count on me to figure out
percentages for tips and stuff like that.
Next, my parents own their own business so I have experience with Peachtree
accounting software. My parents have been the biggest inspiration in my life.
They are self-taught business owners who never had the opportunities to pursue
college, so I always think of them in my own pursuits.
Lastly, I have a degree in Business Finance from San José State University. Now
take a look at my resume!
Sincerely,
Jane Lee
The given document is a letter that has been written to an accounting farm by a finance
graduate from San Jose University seeking to have an opportunity to work with XYZ
Solutions Company. The student is a degree holder who is also an expert in solving
math problems. The primary aim of the writer was to get an opportunity of joining XYZ
Company so that she can briefly gain work experience and university credit that will help
him build his strong skill set.
The ethos of this writer is that she is a degree holder from a reputable university” I have
a degree in Business Finance from San Jose State University.” However, she has
missed the mark by not clearly stating what he would like to accomplish in the given
organization. For instance, he had a chance to include the relevant coursework and the
details of her work experience. Her explanation was not convincing to the receiver. In
this case, she could have listed a few courses she did in her financial degree that were
relevant to the farm instead of talking about what her friends thought. She could have
also stated the relevant accomplishments that he received from her parent’s firm as part
of his job experience. Her credibility is not particular as she addresses her audience
semi casually while she ought to address them officially.
The author also uses logos and pathos to seek an internship opportunity from XYZ
Solutions Company. The author is trying to tell XYZ Solutions Company that he is the
best candidate for the advertised position. However, the author seems to have missed
the mark because she was not specific about the kind of skills she has. First, she failed
to discuss what she looks forward to gain from the internship, such as having a better
understanding of the financial industry or developing the skills acquired from the
University. Secondly, she just mentioned having the professional experience without
going into details of what the experience was and what her parent’s business is.
In my opinion, I think she did not set her priorities right. This is because while listing her
strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments, she began with her hobbies and what
other people thought about her. This says much about her; somehow, she might have a
low self-image and needs constant approval from the people around her. The author
also should have listed her accomplishments first before listing her hobbies and what
people perceive of her. For instance: “I am a degree Holder in Business Finance from
San Jose State University. I have also gained experience in the same field from working
with XXX Company as a tutor hence gaining experience that I believe will be relevant to
your firm.”
And finally, the intended receiver of this letter is the Human resource of XYZ Solutions
Company. The author did a great job of informing the receiver about her teamwork and
the way she is good with people. Every organization requires a person that works well in
a team because it takes teamwork to accomplish a goal. It is also essential that an
intern can build a strong bond with coworkers and the managers, for this is also a
determinant of whether you can be offered a full-time job or not. However, the author
ought to have been flexible in that even if she misses the accounting assistant
internship opportunity, and she will get another task that is relevant to these skills so
that she does not miss out on the given a chance. In conclusion, the author’s ethos,
logos, and pathos were not so convincing for the post she was applying for. She was
not detailed and did not write a proper requirement for applying as an intern.

Discipline Investigation Assignment
Hospitality courses are essential in preparing learners to become successful business
persons or to hold key positions in the hospitality industry around the world. I chose the course to
learn different roles, including leadership in general management. The current globalization has
made the world become a global village where people could conduct business activities all over
the world. By taking a hospitality (marketing) degree, the learner acquires essential skills for
planning, organizing, directing, and controlling a company to succeed in its business operations.
The program enables the learner to study various theories in finance, accounting, marketing,
statistics, economics, management, and decision making. I believe that the courses I learn in my
major will prepare me to achieve my goals of becoming a successful entrepreneur dealing in
hospitality business. Besides, I have experience in the application of IT in business operations.
Through this, I will have an opportunity of incorporating technology perspectives in my
organization for a better outcome. I will also improve the management of the information
concerning the organization’s operation through the implementation of the system application in
my future specialization. Having better management of the data, I will also be capable of making
an effective decision based on the conclusion established from the data analysis. Generally, the
knowledge in information technology will help me in improved ways of handling information
concerning the production process from which I will have the capability in predicting the outcome.
In this study, I interviewed my uncle, who owns several clubs in China. He also imports
wines from different nations and sells in his clubs. My uncle has been a successful entrepreneur
who has operated the clubs for close to a decade. He started with a wines and spirits shop and
expanded it to a club. The business has grown successfully to become a large company consisting
2
of several clubs within China. He is the perfect role model for me since I always have a wine
enthusiast, and I have the aim of running my club in the future. I have attended a few training
sessions for my uncle’s club training sales and wine tasting. The training sessions have increased
my interest in the field. Therefore, I believe that I will one day set up a club business and run
several clubs like my uncle.
Interview Report
Background and Career Path
My uncle has said that he has operated the business for several years. He started from
scratch and grew the company to a multimillion one over the period. Everything looked okay for
the period as his management skills allowed him to succeed. However, my uncle admitted that his
business almost went bankrupt in the past few months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic
(Koshle, Kaur, & Basista, 2020). The Chinese government had a strict attitude that did not allow
people to go outside. The lockdown in China was a hard hit on businesses such as the club business.
The restrictions forced my uncle to close his store for around three months. I can remember one of
the famous quotes that I received from my uncle, something that helped him to minimize the losses.
He said, “When you cannot avoid losing, just try to lose less, be optimistic, and you will be glad
about what you have earned during the process.” My uncle decided to use an alternative platform
to continue with the business and continue earning from the clubs despite the closure of the clubs
for around three months.
The streaming platform has been an enormous business in China in recent years. However,
during the past few months that the coronavirus pandemic hit the nation, the streaming platform
had its hit. My uncle cooperated with some streaming companies to “keep” the party going.
Besides, he opted for the provision of a “lottery” coupons that allowed people to earn during the
3
stream. The clubs streamed their D.J.s to enable their clients to continue enjoying themselves while
in the houses. The streaming business did not only allow my uncle to protect his business from
going bankrupt during the lockdown for the past three months but also helped in marketing it. The
streaming of the D.J.s at the clubs acted as a promotion strategy that marketed the clubs to even
the clients that never knew about them before. Since the Chinese government uplifted the
restrictions to allow people to get out of their houses, my uncle’s clubs have been busier than before
(Masige).
My uncle’s strategy in business operations highlighted that Livestream D.J.s was the
strategy used by the nightclubs to beat the coronavirus side effects. The night clubs continued to
make profits through live-streaming during the lockdown as people kept inside their houses for
about three months. The nightclub business was among the worst-hit sectors since they could not
receive any client during that period. Although the revenues generated through live streaming were
not comparable to that made during the regular business operations as it was small, it helped the
nightclubs and their customers to “keep the party going.” Business Insider claims that the strategy
of live streaming was proof that technology can turn the impossible to possible. The nightclub
managers continued to generate revenues even at a time when their clubs were in total lockdown
for about three months.
The live stream was considered to be performed at the wrong time in consideration of the
issue related to the lockdown due to the coronavirus. The newspaper had claimed that the
coronavirus pandemic had impacted the nightclub business leading to massive loss of income. LA
Times claimed that the night club managers could not do much during the lockdown as they had
to watch their shops closed for the whole period. It was a discouraging discussion of the company
since many people like me who have longed to operate nightclubs would abandon their dreams.
4
Roles and Responsibilities
As the director of his firm, my uncle has the responsibility of developing a business strategy
and hiring qualified and capable staff. His other roles in the business, including budget
management, products designing, and to oversee the sales operations in the clubs. He also interacts
with the clients to understand their product demands and coordinate the availability of those
products in the firm. As a norm in all the club businesses, there is a need for good interpersonal
interactions between the staff and the clients. The customers would flock clubs that meet their
demands regarding the services offered by the workers. The waiters should be prompt in providing
their services while addressing them with a lot of respect. The D.J.s should also play the music
that appeals to all fans. Such operations require an understanding team with excellent skills and
humor to understand the demands of the customers. Therefore, the greatest challenge for my uncle
in executing his roles as the owner and director of his business is hiring the right people and
ensuring that they remain focused on the goals of the business. The staff hired at the clubs should
be individuals who are ready to learn, possess the right skills, while also having the right attitudes.
It is possible to hire a person with vast experience in the club operations but still require necessary
training to meet the diverse demands of the customers.
I asked my uncle how he keeps his team focused on their roles in serving customers at the
clubs. He said that one of the best approaches had been taken apart from recruiting the right
individuals if to offer proper training to them. The training prepares the employees for the tasks
and challenges they are likely to face in the job. The workers would approach the clients in the
best way after receiving the training leading to high retention rates of the clients. The D.J.s will
make music selections that meet the demands of the majority of the customers who club at the
facilities owned by my uncle. When the novel coronavirus pandemic hit China, my uncle trained
5
his D.J.s on the live streaming platform executed effective performance hence contributing to
success in the business at a time when the clubs remained closed, and competitors recorded
massive losses.
Communication Skills
I asked my uncle about his most essential communication techniques in business, and he
admitted that he is a good listener. He listens to both his employees and customers. He also extends
the listening ear to the suppliers and other associates. A listening manager will learn about the
needs of his teams and execute them instead of selling only his ideas to them. In most cases, the
employees would work well with the managers who listen to their plights and meet their demands.
Such workers will not have any problem in the business and will take all responsibilities in their
duties. My uncle also said that he approaches all his employees whenever he thinks they have
made mistakes. However, he would engage each of them in person to person discussion without
using official language that would demoralize them on their duties.
My uncle incorporated effective strategies which could ensure that the D.J.s have been
motivated hence contribution to consider satisfaction. Clubs do not require dull waiters and D.J.s
as everything will be dull and deny the customers the joy that they seek in the clubs. People go
clubbing in search for joy and happiness. They need to forget about the stressing life at their
workplaces or homes. However, it is the waiters and the D.J.s who decide whether those clients
would be happy at the clubs or not. My uncle admitted to investing much of his time and resources
in motivating his employees (“‘ It’S Like Losing A Family’: An L.A. Nightclub And Its Workers
Fight For Survival During The Coronavirus Outbreak”). During meetings, prepare highly
motivational speeches to the employees and read to them. He also provides various incentives to
the staff as a form of motivation.
6
Conclusion
Both the interview and the Discipline Investigation Assignment taught about essential
lessons and ideas on successfully managing club businesses. I learned about the ways of using
technology to mitigate business challenges, such as those witnessed during the novel coronavirus
pandemic. He successfully managed to earn revenues when the clubs remained closed through the
live streaming of his D.J.s. Besides, the lesson taught me that success in business begins at
recruitment levels. It is necessary to recruit highly qualified staff that are ready to learn new ideas.
I also learned about other essential skills of succeeding in businesses such as communication
(Koshle, Kaur, & Basista, 2020). My uncle claimed that he listens a lot to his staff to meet their
demands by actualizing their needs. He said that a good listener would understand the problems
facing their teams and forge ways of solving them in time. I further learned that successful
managers are those that motivate their employees so that the workers would extend the happiness
among the customers.
