Summary and Background
The University of Maryland (UMD) is a public research ?university located in College Park,
Maryland. As the flagship institution of the University System of Maryland and the largest
university in the Washington metropolitan area, the university serves more than 41,000 students
by providing over 200 degree-granting programs, including 92 undergraduate majors, 107
master’s programs, and 83 doctoral programs.
The UMD Division of Information Technology (DIT) has launched Google Apps for Education,
which provides students, faculty, and staff with free access to Google applications, including
Google Drive. Members of the UMD community can now use Drive to create, manage, and share
files. Members of the UMD community who are unfamiliar with Drive will need to be oriented
to the features and operation of Google Drive. UMD DIT is requesting assistance from an
experienced technical writer or writing team to develop a set of instructions that will help
students, faculty, and staff:
1. Access My Drive and Share Drives on Google
2. Create Files and Folders in My Drive and Shared Drives
3. Share Files and Folders with collaborators
The purpose of this Request for Proposal (RFP) is to:
? Solicit proposals from various individuals,
? Conduct a fair and extensive evaluation based on the criteria listed herein, and
? Select the technical writer or writing team whose proposal best meets DIT’s needs.
Proposal Guidelines
This Request for Proposal presents the requirements for an open and competitive process.
Proposals must include:
? A project scope that provides a brief overview of the purpose of the instructions
? Background research that shows you are knowledgeable in best practices for writing
effective instructions (citing 5-6 sources)
? Your qualifications to write about Google Drive
? A project schedule
Project Scope
The Project Scope should identify:
? the intended title for the instructions,
? an intended audience
? an intended purpose.

In describing your qualifications, respond to the following questions:
? Why do you think we should trust your ability to speak on Google Drive?
? What particular perspective and knowledge of cloud computing and associated
technologies can you harness for this document?

The background research you will include in your proposal will show UMD DIT that you are
knowledgeable about writing an effective set of instructions. Before we can accept your proposal
