Problem 1 (8 points). An electric company has taken 12 samples of 400 bulbs each and
found the following proportions of defective bulbs: .03, .01, .02, .01, .02, .03, .02, .01,
.00, .01, .03, and .02.
a. Calculate the control limits for a p control chart.
b. A sample of 200 bulbs has just been taken, and 8 bulbs were found to be defective. Is
the process still in control?
Problem 2 (12 Points) In a control chart application, the Sun Trust bank noticed that the
average daily demand deposit has been running at 109 with an average range of 15 over
the past year.
a. What are the CL, UCL, and LCL for the x and R charts based on a sample size of 6?
b. The demand deposits for the past six days have been 110, 102, 96, 87, 115, and 106.
Compute an average and range for this data. Do the figures for the past six days suggest a
change in the average or range from the past year?
Problem 3 (20 points). A candy store has sold the following number of pounds of candy
for the past three days. Assuming ? = 0.1, complete the following table. You must
provide details of calculations for each entry filled in the table to earn credit.
