Objective

This e-Commerce project is to be completed as a group in which you will assume different team roles. Your group will submit a paper and PowerPoint presentation (with notes) as the final deliverables. This project includes all the aspects of this course and the final deliverables should include a comprehensive review (paper and PowerPoint) that could be presented to a Board of Directors.

Your team has been hired by the Board of Directors to evaluate and update their e-Commerce plan. Your job is to find a company that has good public information available for research. You may use a small, private company if you have someone on your team who is familiar with the company. Your goal is to evaluate, critique, and update the company’s e-Commerce strategy.

Forming Teams

Since this is a group project, you will be required to form teams within the first week class as you have a team assignment due Week 2. There should be no more than six (6) people on each team. There is a discussion thread included in Week 1 titled Forming Project Teams. Please use that forum to create your teams. Join a team within your time zone; there are time zone threads included.

Once your team has 6 members, identify your project manager. The project manager will email the instructor with your team’s Group identifier, as listed in the threads, and the team members. The project manager is responsible for organizing the project and assigning tasks as needed. Now that your team is formed, you want to begin the Week 1 assignment.

Group Expectations

All group members are expected to participate. You will need to take the major areas of your paper and create a professional and informational paper. The Board will need to vote on your proposal, so be sure to include the relative cost, a cost-benefit analysis, and an overall expectation of the program. The project is worth 20% of the overall grade.

Company Review and Project Plan (Week 2)

For this first team assignment, the project manager will submit the following two deliverables.

Two-paragraph description of your company.
A complete, 7-week project plan.

As a team, your company review should provide a clear and concise review of the company you plan to analyze. This should be critical information that the Board of Directors should know before you begin your project. The project plan should include important milestones and major tasks that need to be completed. Include items such as group meetings class time, editing of paper, PowerPoint preparation, and examples of ideas for your plan. It is important to think ahead. Succeeding in the business world you must think ahead and coordinate future activities. This project plan will help you determine if your project is on track or falling behind.

Project Criteria (Week 7)

The e-Commerce plan should contain the following sections.

I. Market Analysis

You need to conduct research on your company. What type of company is it? How does it do business? What are its products or services? You must then analyze the company and do a complete Market Analysis. Write a 4-5 page report that includes a summary of the business, the market, and the industry. Items to include in this section would be a comprehensive SWOT analysis, a developed marketing environment analysis, and an evaluation of the business’s primary customers, the marketing mix, and an outline of its main competitors (at least two). All references MUST be included in APA format, and you can utilize an eppendix for any extra information that you think is critical to this evaluation.

II. E-Commerce Rationale

This section will take your company evaluation and give a critique of the current e-Commerce program and activity. In a 3-4 page evaluation, you will summarize the current program and give SPECIFIC areas that are not working and how your improvements (outlined clearly) will aid the company. You will also need to point out how your competitors are utilizing e-Commerce as well. This is critical, as it will set up the rationale for your program.

III. E-Commerce Critique and Recommendation

This section is the justification for why the e-Commerce program needs to be updated, improved upon, or increased. This section should be 3-4 pages and outline the specific reasons why you are moving forward. In other words, if we increase our e-Commerce program, we will improve sales in this area or within this market group. Or perhaps you have to keep up with the competition, as they are increasing their market share through the online environment. Or you can justify it using a cost savings approach. Utilizing e-Commerce, we are saving X. Any or all of these examples can be used, but you need to justify your reasoning and present specific and quantitative analysis.

IV. Budget and Finance Considerations

This section refers to the costs of the program you have outlined above. Develop specific capital investment costs (money to start the program) as well as operational budget considerations. AIDitionally, this can include extra income as a result of your program or savings that will be incurred.

You need to be specific in outlining these concepts, and you must support your work with specific and well-rationed numbers. Any numbers that are not realistic will result in a grade reduction. This section should have a break-even analysis as well as a cost-benefit chart summarizing the benefits of the program.

There is no page count criteria for this section; however, it must be thorough and professionally presented.

V. References

Provide a list of references following APA format.

PowerPoint

PowerPoint presentation will accompany the paper submitted. The presentation should include 6-10 slides, not including title or reference slides. The PowerPoint should be an actual, formal presentation of the material provided
