The thoughts papers are to be submitted through CourseSpaces and are not expected to be
long (300-550 words). However, attention to detail, quality thinking, and quality writing are
necessary if you hope to get full marks.

Discussion Question 1: What kind of psychologist would you like to be?
Of the variety of kinds of psychologist listed on pages A5 to A10 in the text, which kind most
appeals to you as a career?
List five steps you would have to complete in order to have a career as that kind of psychologist.
Find and describe one example of a real psychologist who is now active as the kind of
psychologist you describe.
Discussion Question 2: Effect of exercise: Two different research methods
Find and summarize an example of a recent (last ten years) research study of the effect of
physical exercise on some psychological process or state (mood, happiness, depression, work
or school success, etc). Of the research methods described in the chapter (naturalistic
observation; case study; survey; correlational research; experimental research): which type
was used in the study that you summarized? What aspects of the study indicate that?
Briefly describe how the effect of physical exercise might be studied using one other research
method besides the one used in the study you summarized. (Or you could find and summarize
another study of the effect of physical exercise that utilizes a different type of research method).
Discussion Question 3: Flirting behaviour: Two different research methods
Find and summarize an example of a recent (last ten years) research study of flirting behaviour.
Of the research methods described in the chapter (naturalistic observation; case study; survey;
correlational research; experimental research): which type was used in the study that you
summarized? What aspects of the study indicate that?
Briefly describe how flirting might be studied using one other research method besides the one used in the study you summarized. (Or you could find and summarize another study of flirting
that utilizes a different type of research method).
Discussion Question 4: Effects of cannabis: two different research methods
Find and summarize an example of a recent (last ten years) research study of the effects of
cannabis on some psychological process or processes (memory, motivation, etc.). Of the
research methods described in the chapter (naturalistic observation; case study; survey;
correlational research; experimental research): which type was used in the study that you
summarized? What aspects of the study indicate that?
Briefly describe how effects of cannabis might be studied using one other research method
besides the one used in the study you summarized. (Or you could find and summarize another
study of the effects of cannabis that utilizes a different type of research method).
You needed to answer only one question for the thought paper so I marked the first one.
Your argument needs to be backed up by a scientific/scholarly article from a peer-reviewed journal (see the guidelines for finding peer-reviewed articles in the thought paper guidelines). Furthermore, the article
needs to be summarized and when paraphrazed, proper citations must be included in the body of your thought paper. Personal opinions should be supported with appropriate evidence from the research
literature.
