Diabetic Patient with Wound Ulcer
Introduction
People with diabetes are increasingly developing lower extremity complications which are a growing concern in public health. Most of the complications have a common way of progression where they begin with neuropathy that leads to diabetic foot wounds that are prone to infection. With the wounds being infected, extremity amputations are inevitable with or without the presence of critical limb ischemia (Armstrong & Lavery, 1998; Wu, et al., 2007). A treatment approach based on common sense has been recently adopted for lowering the detrimental consequences that may arise from diabetic foot ulcers. Identification of the risk and etiological factors that contribute to the development of diabetic foot ulceration can be easily identified in any clinical setting without the use of expensive equipments (Clayton & Elasy, 2009). The aim of this paper is to take a critical review and analysis of diabetic wound ulcers in relation to pathophysiology, client care goals, nursing interventions and discharge planning.
