Dear sir/Madam……
I hereby write you this letter to give you information on Diabetes Mellitus type 2 as published by World Health Organization (WHO). They have given clear guidelines and explained what the disease is, its causes, symptoms associated with it, tests to be run and how it is treated. This letter is to give you scientific proof to what (WHO) published.
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder that was referred to as non-insulin dependent. It is a disease known to resist insulin and attributed to high levels of sugar. There are approximately 90% of people reported having this type of diabetes. According to Rios (2010), the pancreas located behind the stomach produces insulin that is needed to transport blood sugar directly to the cells to be stored. The cause of diabetes mellitus type 2 is when fat, muscles and liver are not responding to the insulin whereby blood sugar cannot be stored in these cells causing the sugar levels to rise. The high blood sugar level is commonly referred to as hyperglycaemia. Genetic factors may also cause Diabetes mellitus type 2.
One of the most-common symptoms in people suffering from diabetes mellitus type 2 is the urge to drink water frequently and to urinate more often. This due to excess sugar in the blood that results in fluids drained from body tissues leaving a person thirsty. Another sigh is increased hunger since the muscles and body organs become weak because insulin will not be supplying sugar in the cell to store energy. People with this type of diabetes tend to lose a lot of weight because the body uses the little fuel left in the muscles due to lack of metabolism of glucose. Fatigue, faint vision, frequent infections are among the symptoms that a patient with diabetes mellitus type 2 experiences (Levene& Donnelly, 2011).
Several tests can be run to know your status concerning this disease. One of the tests done is random blood sugar test whereby blood drawn at any given time. If the sugar lever recorded is 200 mg/dL(11.1 mmol/L) or more, it clearly indicates you have this diabetes. Secondly, fasting blood sugar test can be done only after 8-12 hours of not taking any food or drink. Any results above 100 mg/dL(5.55 mmol/L) are positive for diabetes type 2. Haemoglobin A1C test is another way of diagnosis that measures the blood sugar levels after 2-3 months, and if the values are 4% to 5.6% then, that is safe. Lastly, Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) can be run by measuring your blood sugar before and after taking certain glucose solution (Feinglos& Bethel, 2010).
It is good to let you know that there is medication available for patients with diabetes mellitus type 2. One way is to maintain a good diet and engage in physical activities to watch your weight. In cases where the sugar level does not go down, then take oral pills that reduce it. Insulin therapy is essential with other treatments such as Sulfonylureas, Meglitinides, DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors used to regulate sugar levels (Levene& Donnelly, 2011).
Kind regard,
