Civilization; Mesopotamia and the Nile Valley and Delta.
The first centralized civilizations began to emerge approximately five thousand years ago. These were mainly between rivers, as illustrated by Mesopotamia, and in the river valleys and deltas as exemplified by the civilization in the Nile. These rivers provided a dependable, though not always consistent, source of water for basic human consumption and agriculture. Further advances in technology, institutional, economic, socio cultural and organizational developments resulted within these early civilizations, influenced by the proximity to these big rivers. Each civilization developed independently of each other, sharing some characteristics but with distinct differences between each particular civilization.
