Research the case briefs listed below that pertain to the legal meaning and use of reasonable force by police officers. Compare the courts opinion’s with the Department of Justice (DOJ) report on the use of force by Officer Darren Wilson against Michael Brown. Review pages 1-26, and 78-86 of the DOJ report. Write a minimum six page paper (DO NOT write in a questions and answers format) that addresses the following:

• Explain the circumstances, incident(s), subjects, and the court’s final opinions on the six cases listed.
• Explain the DOJ reasoning regarding use of deadly force, specifically use of deadly force on an unarmed subject.
• Explain the difference between a reasonable person rule and a reasonable officer rule.
• Do the courts hold police officers to the same legal standards as an ordinary citizen when it pertains to the use of force, specifically deadly force? Why or why not?
• Based on your readings and other course work, what are the concepts that an officer needs to know in the field to ensure their actions are legal and ethical with regards to use of force?
• Do you agree with, or disagree with the legal standards discussed? Why or why not?
