Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things; is a book written in 2002 by a USA architect William McDonough and his German chemist counterpart Michael Braungart. The book is considered a manifesto calling for the transformation of humans through the application of intellectual designs. The authors are interested in trying to make the readers think critically about not only on regulating damages, but also adapting a revolutionary approach that will minimize the wastage on contemporary issues (McDonald & Braungart, 96). The authors of the book suggest that we can employ a better method of recycling all waste to something of great importance. The key argument of the authors is ensuring that products are designed to go from cradle to cradle instead of designs that read cradle to grave.
The philosophy behind cradle to cradle considers products that have a continuous life; and that of cradle to grave are considered to be of one life only. The products of Cradle to grave are considered a nuisance and lead to mass filling of the land surface. Some of the products the authors consider cradle to grave are items such as plastic bottles, which do not decompose and result to landfills. The authors suggest that the plastic bottles being recycled can lead to the emission of toxic substances that have detrimental effects to an individuals health. Despite the content of the book, reading this manifesto will be an important asset to environmentalists since the contents of the book look at the ways and channels that can be used in preserving the environment.
