Dementia is a syndrome and not a disease which is characterized by a cluster of symptoms associated with cognitive and memory problems. These problems include difficulties with language, attention, articulation of issues and orientation. The syndrome involves abnormal progressive decline in cognition abilities that is beyond age related changes due to brain damage or diseases (Nilsson, et al., 2002). Alzheimer and vascular are the most common clinically identified forms of dementia. It has been estimated that more than 33% and 20% of men and women respectively will be diagnosed with dementia in their lifetime and even a larger number will develop a form of cognitive impairment. Due to good healthcare, the population of the elderly is increasing rapidly and as such it is forecasted that in the next 25 years, there will be 50% increase in the people with dementia (Duron & Hanon, 2008; Whitmer, 2008).
