Cause and Effect Paragraph

Think of a bad habit or a good habit you, or someone in your family, has. Write a paragraph that discusses the causes and/or effects of that habit. Don’t forget that your topic sentence should combine the topic (the habit) with your opinion about the habit.

The paragraph should consist of a well-developed paragraph, which means: you need a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence (clincher). The paragraph should be unified and coherent with specific supporting details or examples for support. It should provide sentence variety (simple, compound, and complex sentences). The sentences should be clear, concise, and arranged in a logical order. Transitional words and phrases should be used to provide coherence. Choose one point of view: first, second, or third person.

Consider completing some prewriting to help you answer this question. After you have written your draft of your paragraph, post it by Thursday at midnight. Then, between Thursday and Saturday, respond constructively to two classmates using the peer review guiding questions. By Sunday at midnight, check the peer review comments from your classmates, revise your paragraph, and post your final version under the heading “final paragraph.”
