Book Title: European Integration and the Taming of Nationalism by Peter Sutherland

Description: Peter Sutherland is the former director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO) serving between its inception in 1993 and 1995. He was also the last director-general of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the predecessor of WTO. This book is based on his landmark lecture at Dr. Garret Fitzgerald’s memorial at the National University of Ireland. The book highlights the adverse effects of extreme nationalism which prevents the growth of trade across borders and international collaborations in trade. The book is crucial in highlighting how organizations function across borders and the benefits of the same. This book will be useful in my major of business administration since it discusses the dynamics of international trade and the perceived benefits of the same. I will use the book to understand how European integration can help the growth of business in the continent and understand Sutherland’s proposition on how to integrate across national boundaries. As an experienced businessman and a former director general of the WTO, Sutherland is in a position to provide credible information on cross-birder trade.
