The works of art are used to portray the social, economic and political status of the era that they were made in and therefore they pronounce a certain political statement owing to the fact that art involves presenting hiIDen messages although sometimes the message may be clear. Over periods of time, there is civilization and with it comes changes in social, economic and political setup of different communities. Consequently, the works of art also change although they may use the same styles that have been there all along. Note that such changes results because the artists are also different from those before them and living in a different era. This paper seeks to show how art is a political statement and how this has been indicated over different art periods in history. Understanding this helps us to understand exactly why art is important and how it passes history down generations.
