Students will write a paper on a drug addiction topic of their choice that addresses an important question in addiction and then make an argument about whether  (or what features of it) are more similar or different from the other substance use disorders.). Papers will be graded on the following rubrics: 1) appropriateness of topic, 2) clear framing of the question/premise, 3) presentation of the evidence for the premise, 4) presentation of the evidence against the premise, 5) proper citation of primary research articles (i.e., actual experiments, and not just literature reviews or book chapters, although you can have some of those), 6) absence of “filler text” (i.e., text used to achieve the word requirement without addressing the premise of the paper), 7) conclusion based on the evidence, 8) identification of areas of future research, and 9) proper format, including maximum four pages, single spaced, 0.5 inch margins, appropriate citation of literature in the text and in the bibliography (bibliography does not count toward the word requirement/limitation). Do not include a title page; simply put your name and title at the top of the first page and start the main body of the paper right afterward.
